The 2023 season of Box Lacrosse in Victoria starts tonight at the Alan Lewer Court at Altona Lacrosse Club.
It really is exciting times for the sport with a record number of men and women, boys and girls playing this season. A lot of the growth can be attributed to 2023 Shappere Urn Award winner, Rod Maher.
Tonight we start with the women’s league with Thunder versus Storm at 7pm followed by a very exciting men’s match between Rage and Thunder at 8pm.
The women’s Thunder side is coached by Under 20 Australian coach, Meghan Mollison and it is simply the best young female players in Victoria led by excitement machine Miriam Suares-Jury. These girls will need to be at their best because waiting for them in the Storm side, coached by Dan Hall, is a genuine women’s superstar in Nellie Mollison. If you love women’s lacrosse and want to see the future stars in the women’s game then this is the match to see.
The men’s Rage side is coached by last year’s premiership coach, Rod Maher and includes many players from last year’s Premiership side including star players Chris Plumb and Lucas Parsons-Quintiao. Also in the side are Victoria Box players Dan Mentiplay and Jacon Barden, Young guns from the Aussie Junior Box side playing for Rage are Gus Ratje, Joel Kukucka and Zander Elkins. Not to be outdone, the men’s Thunder side is coached by Australian coach Wade Hammond and includes Victorian box players Aaron Aldred, last year’s highest goal scorer in Tyler Reynolds, Tony Joseph and Travis Croll.
Tomorrow night, the excitement continues with Fury taking on Storm in the Men’s League at 7pm followed by Fury versus Rage in the Women’s competition.
